The town is not what it once was, but as someone born and bred in Ayr I have nothing to dislike about it. Loads of good places to stay and to eat for all tastes and expenses. Very easy to navigate around the town by car, lots of buses at regular intervals. 3 great golf courses if that's your thing, loads of nice walks along the river, beach and if you find it Craigie Park (great for picnics).

Not an awful lot to do especially for young people but...
Not an awful lot to do especially for young people but Culzean Castle and Dumfries House worth a visit. We also enjoyed the Burns museum. Glasgow easy drive away. Ayr and other beaches would be great in warmer months . Best dinner was at Kirkton Inn, Dalrymple and best lunch at The Coo Shed

Breakfast was consistently good, prepared as per my request. No evening meals but the location is great for visiting bars and restaurants in Ayr. Many places with good reviews a short walk (5-10 minutes) away. I visited two during my stay and was not disappointed with either of them. Proceeded to inform us they had a funeral and all the rooms were being used for family. So had to trek back to Ayr in scorching heat and search for a hotel to put us up . Main hotel is very nice, courtyard rooms are also nice but distinctly different from the main hotel… gardens around are lovely and well maintained. We had a diverted flight from Ireland to Scotland and had booked a room at 2am so very inconvenient to the hotel, but not only did they get us booked in quickly, scrounged for fruit first is you ready since we were starving... Being disabled and elderly, the receptionist was happy to change my booking to a wet room as the hotel only have showers over the bath. At breakfast, again the staff were very obliging and offered to give us table service which we gladly accepted.
